Creating Randomly

Do you consider baking a form of art?

I've decided that trying to mix purple from

red and blue food coloring is futile.  Turned

out ugly in my opinion, but the best I could do.

On my second try of mixing up this King Cake,

it turned out pretty well, and the family seemed

to enjoy it!

Here are a few random creations that I've

been making during my long absence from

the blog...  Happy Year of the Rat!

Unicorn photo props for my daughter the Music

Teacher. They do a Daddy/Daughter dance as a

fundraiser for the Drama Club, and this year the

theme was Unicorns. The "I Poop Rainbows"

was my favorite... Oh my glittering 

rainbow-unicorn-cupcake-stars!

Just a joyful celebration of seeing the rare

experience of sunshine during a gray

 Ohio winter.

Yes, I'm still doodling tiny things and cutting

them out for my Planner/Art Journal.

The Hobonichi Challenge in my 4 x 6 inch Techo

for the month of February is 

Love for Australia.  I did not know that the 

Pavlova dessert had been invented in Australia!

Cabin Fever

Things I did while it snowed. A lot:

- make several collages with scraps and

leftover stuff.

- keep looking out the window with coffee 

cup in hand... 

- play in my Planners/Journals

-doing #ohsocutedoodles challenges this month

- binge watch Netflix, and rediscover some

old favorites, like Warehouse 13 on Amazon.

- made homemade oatmeal bread

- ate way too much homemade bread!

- made vegetable beef soup

- reading

- walking in place, and zumba on YouTube

- fill out my Medicare Application online

- watching 'crazy Dad' videos on YouTube

- wearing lots of clothing in layers

- way too much time online

- had to look up Muppet images for the song

"I've got cabin fever." so fun!

What did you do in your neck of the woods?

Here in the U.S. we seem to be in for 

several storms.  Survived 5"-6" of snow this

 weekend where I am in Ohio, but I hear more are 

predicted...with rain, ice, snow...who knows?!

A Fantastic Month

Celebrating Fantastic Beasts for the

month of November

since the movie 'Crimes of Grindelwald'

is out this month.

Having fun drawing lots of 

magical beasts...

a photo-heavy post, because it's

been so long since I last updated this blog.

You've been warned...

One of my favorite characters,

Dobby, the House Elf.

The Hobonichi is getting more difficult to

write in, (and to scan) since the thickness of

the journal is causing a serious curve near

the spine. The binding holds up wonderfully

despite the bulk, but I am now being careful

to not write or draw in that area.  Some folks get

 so excited to begin working in their

 new planners, but I feel a little

 sad to leave this "old friend" behind. It

will go on the bookshelf for looking at from

time to time.

Some might maintain that all felines

can detect suspicious or untrustworthy

people...

I have many favorites from the 

Fantastic Beasts movies, but the Niffler

is so fun! I'm attracted to shiny things too...

just sayin'...

The twiggy little Bowtruckle is

so adorable. He looks fragile, but I 

have a feeling he's tougher than

he looks!

Wouldn't we all love to be able to 

become invisible when the need arose?!

Tales of Camping

Just returned from a short

camping trip to visit

Son and Family...

we are getting to be physically

challenged by sleeping on

air mattresses in a tent!

A peaceful campsite by a river

makes all the effort worth it. Plus

good times with family!

P.S.  It ended up that our tent was relatively

dry when we packed up. There's usually

a bit of dampness from the dew, which is

fine. Sopping wet, not so good. This 

time we didn't have to set the

tent back up to dry when

we got home!

Tribute to Wizards

The month of July is

"Harry Potter Month" in my

Hobonichi A6.

I especially love the 'young' Harry Potter

characters from the first couple of movies.

And of course I've read the books several times

too.  Never mind that they are supposed to be

books for kids.  They are great fun!

After a month of drawing toys in June,

I stumbled upon #thelicklekiwi challenge of

#31daysofharry on Instagram...perfect!

Then realized after a couple of days that many

of the participants are professional illustrators

interpreting the characters in their own

cartoon style. OK then. 

I will still do my own thing...

Well, the Weasley twins are kind of

'cartooney' on this page. Didn't have time

 that day for realism, I guess.  

Enjoying doing these, though I admit

I tend to get behind a couple of days

and then catch up, especially when

the family was visiting over the 

4th of July holiday!

I challenged myself to draw toys

for the month of June in my Hobonichi.

There are lots of little toys in the toybox

from fast-food restaurants...and other

random things.

Donald and Goofy are of course

classic. I have no idea why they are

in these particular costumes. Maybe there

was a movie promotion at the time?

(The butterfly tag on the right is a flap

hiding a bit of journaling. Just the left

pair of wings are glued down)

I had to look up the dog character on the

right, and no idea what that little worm

is from...

Every once in a while, I still see a Care Bear.

Birthday Bear is one of the best.  I think

there's a Grumpy Bear around here

somewhere too...maybe he'll make it 

into the journal this month.

One of my son's favorite toys (and cartoons)

was G.I. Joe. It felt appropriate to draw him on

the day we went to meet a good friend's

veterans Honor Flight returning from D.C.

Several hundred people turned out to greet

the returning vets, and we hope it helped,

in a very small way, make up

 for the homecoming that the 

Viet Nam veterans didn't get originally.

Another toy (on the left) that I looked up on

Google. Bakugan toys and cartoons were a

popular Japanese genre. And who doesn't

love Fozzie Bear?! Corny jokes and all...
