Spring Headgear

Some of my blogging friends participated

in a challenge called Tag Tuesday,

which struck my fancy.  The theme was

"Hats and Headgear."  So many possibilities!

I realize it may be bad form to share

an entry on Thursday that was supposed

to be done on Tuesday. But then again,

'better late than never' has often

been an appropriate motto for me!  

Stacking up some Spring

'items' on her head made me smile.

After all, some of the hats from the

past have been quite elaborate, and

make you wonder how the poor woman

was able to hold up her head!

Tag is pre-printed with dictionary text,

the flowers at the bottom were cut from

a bit of scrapbook paper. The girl, frog,

and bird are my own drawings done on

cardstock using a Micron pen, and 

watercolor added.

UnPlanner 2016

For May, I've dispensed

with the monthly view calendar in

favor of a collage in my DLP

unPlanner... 

One of our challenges was to

create a pocket.  I decided I'd like

to have some scallops on the edge,

and make the size so that the

page behind it would show.

Haven't written anything on the tag yet.

I'll figure something out...I used mostly

highlighter on the tag. The pocket

page is a combination of watercolors

and highlighter pens.

Though still doing the

Documented Life Project,

it has been challenging keeping up

with both my Hobonichi Techo and

DLP at the same time. April was a bit

over-committed since I was also doing

a Fake Journal, and swap art too. 

My daily activities don't always show up in

my DLP, but it's a fun way to

follow the challenges of the group and

do a few more doodles and sketches.

And try to use up what's in my stash

without buying more stuff!

Asian Art Swap Pages

My friend Elizabeth, of Altered Book Lover fame,

organized a swap with a few folks to trade pages

with the theme to be chosen by each artist

for the pages they will receive. Rikae

has received her pages in the mail,

so I can show them to you without

spoiling any surprises...

Rikae chose Asian art as her theme,

using the color Jade, with touches of 

red and blue.  Since there are many 

shades of Jade, I just kind of winged it!

The image above was inspired by

art work that I saw at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

It is supposed to be a bird with its head

tucked beneath its wing.  The silhouette of

bamboo is a classic oriental theme, as is

the image of plum blossoms.

This quote seemed appropriate, 

and the decorations are from a wonderful

book called "The Grammar of Ornament"

by Owen Jones.  I frequently use it for

design inspiration!

The pocket, above, was made from some fabric

with an oriental-style design. The leaves are

detailed in gold thread.

The tag shows a design from a 

Columbus Museum of Art porcelain

piece, that is featured in a booklet I 

brought home from one of my visits.
The quote is from the Cleveland exhibit.

My bookcase is fairly overflowing with booklets,

free postcards, and books from my visits to 

exhibits!  But they are a great resource...

Thanks to my friend Elizabeth,

and I want to use each
tiny scrap, because I know
they were so time-consuming to make!
