Tales of Animals, Magic, and Coffee

Above, a card sent to a mail artist in France.
Design derived from ancient Mexican motifs.
(this was identified as an eagle)
You can see the envelope here
on Eric Bruth's blog.

The fairy tale challenge I've been
doing in my little Hobonichi planner
has presented some challenges.

I greatly respect book illustrators
who are able to create dynamic
and exciting pages that show action.

This week we saw a guy on a
motorcycle wearing an 'Elmo' helmet cover!
You can buy it online. Cracked me up...

I am several days behind on the last of
the fairy tales for Sept.  My friend Elizabeth wants
to see art for the tale of Bluebeard!
I don't think I will be trying to draw dead
wives in a locked room...but you never know.
We had a very busy weekend at the end of
this month, so I have to catch up on
a few drawings.  Next project:
an ink drawing every day for "Inktober."

How many references to a beverage
did you notice?  (not counting
the soup)  Linking up for T Day...
go visit other bloggers for a beverage
and a chat!  Thanks for coming
 by for art and coffee.

  1. Wonderful drawings and fairy tales is such a lovely theme, I love Goldilocks and Puss in Boots. I'm singing Aladdin songs now too ...lol 😉. I remember seeing tea and coffee references today (maybe 7), oh and don't forget those pumpkin muffins - yummy yum yum! Wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊

  5. I counted seven cups, but I'm sure I missed one. Like you, my train of thought was derailed and there were no survivors here, either.

Those Grimm fairy tales were absolutely HORRIBLE. I have always believed they were used to intimidate children and keep them in line. One of those "spare the rod, spoil the child" lessons, I fear.

You did a beautiful job drawing these characters. My favorite might be the stone in the soup because it looks so realistic, especially the steam. Of course, being a cat lover, I appreciated the sanitized version of Puss in Boots, too.

LOVE reading your thoughts and seeing your gorgeous art. Even enjoyed the tea image you removed from the container/holder. Loved seeing your steps and your reactions to your art class. BTW, I took at least 11 steps today (grin).

Thanks for sharing your wonderful art and coffee mugs with us for T this Tuesday. As always, simply beautiful art.

  6. Magical pages, your art is awesome. I loved your drawings Goldilocks and the bears were great, I think that was my all time favourite fairy tale and Puss in Boots looked like he had a real attitude with the strong pose.
    A super post to read.
    Happy T day wishes.

  7. Those fairy tale sketches are amazing Dianne. Red riding hood is cute but I think my favorite is the 3 bears and Goldilocks. :) I also really like your little "bugs" when you were feeling icky. Hope you are feeling better. Cool card, as well as the dragon car I see on your side bar. Happy T day. hugs-Erika

  11. Oh My! These are so amazing! I had to go back and look over them twice and then when I realized you did all of these...well, you are SO talented! WOW! You could certainly be a children's book illustrator. I love kids books and I have seen some really awful illustrations. But these are magnificent! Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  14. What fabulous Fairy tale drawings Dianne! Stone soup always reminds me off my teaching days when we actually made a tasty Stone Soup and compared it with one that didn't have a stone in it - the children loved how it tasted the same!!! Belated Happy T Day - apologies for being so late - still trying to get my photos off my phone camera! Chrisx
