Index Cards and Candy Art

Continuing the 61 day creative
habit challenge - ICAD.
 Index-Card-a-Day art: watercolor or
acrylic backgrounds, collage with painted papers,
a little 'clip art', ink drawings, text, a map piece.
There might be some watercolor pencil in there too...
you get the idea, lots of scraps and itty-bits!
Mixed media on index cards.

This was my favorite of the group...the
combination of colors, and the suggestion
of blue waves...

This month the Hobonichi challenge is candy
and snacks from around the world. It's been
a fun challenge learning about each one,
and trying to represent their packaging. The
Japanese Umaibo was quite unique. Each
flavor of the snack had a different design.

I've noticed the prominent use of bright primary
colors, especially red.  Eye catching is the name
of the game! (Click on any image to enlarge.)

I read an American's review of the Milk Tablets
from Thailand.  Apparently not a taste that he
found great. But I love that happy cow design!

And of course, most Americans are familiar
with Sixlets.  Similar to M &Ms, but smaller.
I like the letterstyle that's a little wonky.
This close-up reveals the imperfections,
(a little too much!) of drawing in a tiny journal.
I find that I can't see to draw tiny and accurately
that well any more. sigh. Suggestion of a
thing will have to do...

My journal pages usually have a
morning coffee doodle, so that 'qualifies' to
join Elizabeth for T Tuesday.
There are usually some delicious looking
photos of appetizing food on the participants blogs.
Did you spot my doodle of the sweet roll?
Stop by for a cup of something and a chat.

T is for Tiger and Toucan

For the month of August I'm doing the
Hobonichi Challenge art prompts:
"It's a Zoo Out There!"
What fun to draw animals, some that
I have never seen. Thank you Internet
for reference photos for art!

I think I may have used this same photo
before to draw a sea otter.  I think he's so
adorable floating on his back, looking so
relaxed!

Sun Bear and Red Panda. Cute little
face on the red panda...

Yes, I work in more than one planner...
and multiple sketchbooks too. After all,
it's not hoarding if it's sketchbooks! ha ha
The top planner (red) is the Hobonichi A6,
in which these little watercolors are
created.

Had to add a fun photo of one of my daughter's
flower beds.  It's beside their basement steps,
hence the reason for the fence. I said her flowers
looked so much better than mine! She admitted
she's been putting on fertilizer every week.
Maybe I need to take a page from her book!

The summer has flown by so quickly! Just
thought I should add some pretty blooms
to the blog before they're gone.

Linking up with Bleubeard and Elizabeth
for T Tuesday. Stop by for a beverage and
a chat. Can you find the coffee cups that
I doodle on my pages nearly every day?
Gotta have coffee before I do all the things.

Call it Therapy

Here's a shameless plug inviting
you to stop by my other
to see the pages of my Fake Journal
so far this month...

The Fake Journal is when I pretend
to be someone else, or try to put
myself in their shoes.  The premise
is that if it's 'fake,' it tends to remove
some of the preconceived notions and
value judgments of what your journal
'should be'.  It's an opportunity to look at
things from a new perspective.
Hopefully, it quiets that mental critical
voice that tells us "that's not good enough."
  Because after all,
it's Fake!

My Hobonichi journaling suffers a bit
when I'm working on my Fake Journal.
The drawings for the April project
seem to take up my drawing energy,
so the Hobonichi has a few more
stickers and quotes mixed in with
 a very few sketches.

I hope you will stop by
Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog
over at Altered Book Lover, not
only for T Tuesday, but also to see
the annual celebration leading up
to Earth Day.  There are lots of
experiments and tutorials to see,
and beverages to enjoy
on Tuesdays.

for your
protection."

Beach Adventures

When we left for our Florida vacation
on the last day of January, our driveway
looked like this, and it was four below zero.

When we arrived in Panama City Beach, it
was about 65 degrees, and the sun was shining.

Your really get spoiled when it's
almost 70 degrees...

The time goes by all too quickly!
But alas, we had to return home to
cold and gray Ohio.

When hubby picked up our mail at the Post Office,
I was thrilled to discover a wonderful envelope
from dear Elizabeth!  Just look
at that fabric, scrumptious handmade papers,
and lovely tip-in pages!  So sweet
of you.  Thanks so much
dear friend!

Happy Mardi Gras to those who are
celebrating... is it Spring yet?  In shock here
since it's currently 18 degrees and snowing.
I got spoiled by the warm Florida
weather.

Linking up for T Tuesday over at
Bleubeard and Elizabeth's, where we share
a beverage and a chat. Have you noticed I
pretty much automatically draw my coffee
cup every morning in my Hobonichi?

Cabin Fever

Things I did while it snowed. A lot:

- make several collages with scraps and
leftover stuff.
- keep looking out the window with coffee
cup in hand...

- play in my Planners/Journals
-doing #ohsocutedoodles challenges this month
- binge watch Netflix, and rediscover some
old favorites, like Warehouse 13 on Amazon.
- made homemade oatmeal bread
- ate way too much homemade bread!
- made vegetable beef soup

- reading
- walking in place, and zumba on YouTube

- fill out my Medicare Application online
- watching 'crazy Dad' videos on YouTube
- wearing lots of clothing in layers
- way too much time online
- had to look up Muppet images for the song
"I've got cabin fever." so fun!

What did you do in your neck of the woods?
Here in the U.S. we seem to be in for
several storms.  Survived 5"-6" of snow this
weekend where I am in Ohio, but I hear more are
predicted...with rain, ice, snow...who knows?!

Stay warm people. Go make some art.

Wizards Volume II

A month of Harry Potter continues...it has
been 20 years since the first book was published!
Above, Tom Riddle and Draco Malfoy,
two villains we 'love to hate.'

The Dursleys, and a Dementor...

It seems like I've been writing about fascias,
soffits, and downspouts all summer as we
tried to make the necessary replacements
ourselves. And then it happened.

Hubby fell off the ladder. He's ok, just
really sore. (CT scan at hospital to make
sure!) Hind sight is 20/20...we should have
hired someone to do it!

Harry Potter's 'muggle' family,
the Dursleys.

In case you were wondering, there
were nine coffee cups in my post
last week. Not nearly so many this week.
Linking up for T Tuesday over at
Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog.

Hippogriff: a mythical creature with the body of
a horse; wings, head and front claws of a raptor.

I hope your week has been
uneventful, or at least events
were pleasant!

Tribute to Wizards

The month of July is
"Harry Potter Month" in my
Hobonichi A6.

I especially love the 'young' Harry Potter
characters from the first couple of movies.
And of course I've read the books several times
too.  Never mind that they are supposed to be
books for kids.  They are great fun!

After a month of drawing toys in June,
I stumbled upon #thelicklekiwi challenge of
#31daysofharry on Instagram...perfect!

Then realized after a couple of days that many
of the participants are professional illustrators
interpreting the characters in their own
cartoon style. OK then.
I will still do my own thing...

portrait sketches from photos.

Well, the Weasley twins are kind of
'cartooney' on this page. Didn't have time
that day for realism, I guess.

Enjoying doing these, though I admit
I tend to get behind a couple of days
and then catch up, especially when
the family was visiting over the
4th of July holiday!

"You look in excellent health to me, Potter, so you will
excuse me if I don't let you off homework today. I
assure you that if you do DIE, you need not turn it in."
~Professor Mcgonagall

Some suspicious characters...

and some that we
love to hate!

How many beverages did you spot
on my pages?

Hope your day is filled with sunshine!
