Travel Journaling ~ on T Tuesday

Travel Journaling is the theme for
The Documented Life Project for June 2015.
This week the challenge was
illustrative journaling. Of course I chose
to draw, but there are many other ways of
illustrating your experiences while traveling.
Collaging illustrations from travel brochures,
maps, and photos would all be great possibilities.

As usual, I did some sketching while hubby
drove the car.  It's kind of amazing the
things you can see along the road
to draw ~ when you are looking
for them!  The crumpled orange barrel
still makes me smile...a classic icon for
driver frustration.  Please do click on the image
to see the details, especially the
'Blasting Ahead' sign!
(There were no signs of actual 'blasting'
as we drove through the area, however,
thank goodness!)

We had a wonderful time in Tennessee for
a couple of days, just visiting our son's family
and spending time at the pool.

I draw in my calendar/agenda...after
participating in The
Documented Life Project 2014, I wasn't
ready to give up decorating an
agenda-type journal.  This isn't
 nearly as complex as last
year's, but has enough space to draw
and collage when the inspiration strikes.

we share a beverage, and what we've

Travel Journaling

I had the marvelous opportunity to visit
Florida during the month of February...
gorgeous beach views and love the sound
of the waves!  The palm trees are
intriguing, and my drawing didn't quite
capture them faithfully,
but it was fun to give it a shot.

Once again I entertained myself during
the long drive with some wobbly-lined
art journaling.  This page is just a
list, but I enjoyed doing the Yellow Submarine
and the Octopus's Garden!

More quips from our 'haunted' GPS
device, Dr. Nightmare, above.

This is one of those 'list' pages similar to
what I've seen on various blogs
and 'Pinned' on Pinterest.
I had never done one like it, so ...
what better time than on vacation?!

It is surprising what a small plastic baggie
can hold in the way of scrapbook paper,
painted papers, tape, and bits of drawings...

Just add them to your journal with a little
glue, and the hours on the freeway
will fly by.  No scissors needed.
Just let 'er rip!

Random road signs, above.  This one is
still in progress, as I think it needs
watercolor added.  I imagine the local
folk are immune to the humor of the
names of their roads and towns, but I
found them quite jolly!

Here's an herbal Peppermint tea collage
from a previous T Tuesday post...
hoping you are enjoying a nice cuppa
of whatever is your favorite.  Click on
the link to see what others are doing for

It was quite a shock to leave Panama City Beach,
with temperatures in the 40's and 50's, to return
to Ohio temperatures of 12 degrees Fahrenheit!
Still anxiously awaiting Spring!

Travel on T Tuesday

Smash book pages recently created
in my Eco Green Smash book...
the pumpkin theme continues!
Above, some ideas that I drew for
Halloween Artist Trading Cards.
Loved the adorable goofy pumpkins
on the scrapbook paper I bought!

I exchanged an ATC with Dawn over

Love the colors, the zentangles,
and the cute ribbon~
Thanks Dawn!
I taped her atc into the book with
decorative tape...

and underneath the atc I drew a Harvest Moon.

My Travel for the week was a quick trip
to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky where we met our
son and his family.  Had a great time,
even though it rained every day. We were
very thankful that we 'camped' in a cabin
and not a tent...you CAN
roast marshmallows in a drizzling rain!

I like to sketch scenes along the roadside
while we drive.  These mystery plants that had
been frosted had marvelous brown 'heads' and
an almost glowing lime-green stem.  Perhaps they
were little sunflowers? I am not sure, but we
only saw them on a short stretch of highway.
Had fun sketching the corn field too...

Bits of songs and silly conversations,
and radio chatter...life can be a bit random,
don't you think?!  And when the grand kids
are not in the car, I have to be the one to
ask, "Are we there yet?"

On our way home, the fall foliage was rather
obscured by the cloudy day and rain, but
I still enjoyed the autumn colors.

Having my mocha coffee this morning
in my panda mug, which is getting more chipped
over time, but I can't bear to retire it!
Hope you will enjoy some tea or coffee today,
some color~ or some pumpkin!

Art Journal Pages: Road Trip

Palm trees in Florida~
don't know the exact type but they
are lovely... just came back from
a vacation in Panama City Beach.
A beautiful beach,
and certainly a lot warmer
than Ohio!

Above, a freeway barrier that we passed in the beginning
of our trip. I've seen it many times, but suddenly
realized it might make a good journal page...

Playing music on the CD player makes
the hours driving more enjoyable...and
prevents having to surf the radio stations
for something we like.
This page gave me opportunity
to doodle and try out lettering styles.

I don't recommend the 'yetti' voice for the
Garmen GPS...completely unable to understand
what is being said. Good for a laugh I suppose, if
you think grunts are funny and
you already have a good idea where you're going,
but then what's the point?  We stuck with
'Dr. Nightmare.'

Still life of my finds on the
first walk on the beach of 2014.
The shells are tiny, or broken pieces
but I still always end up picking up a few...
A small feather from a seagull too,
that I couldn't resist.

The sun is shining and the snow
is melting. Maybe there really is
hope for Spring...
