As Time Goes On

Time passes so quickly...and yet can
drag on at the same time.
 How can that be?

I've survived the Covid-19 Pandemic, at
least so far. Fully vaccinated and hoping
things continue to improve.

We were so bored in February, that I made
a King Cake and we celebrated Mardi Gras!

We survived the 17- year cicada invasion.
This photo was taken at my in-laws' house.
We didn't actually have any of these guys
at our own home, and I'm ok with that.
The noise was deafening!

We've enjoyed some beautiful weather,
sunsets, and some scorching heat too.

Always enjoy seeing some wildlife when
we're out and about. I believe this is a heron.

There's been some stitching...

and some day trips.  Above is the
Marblehead Light House on Lake Erie.
It's one of our favorite scenic places
to visit.

It's so pleasant to listen to the waves and
watch the boats sail (or zoom) by!

And I am still journaling away in my little
English A6 Planner from Hobonichi.  In June,
I traced fifties fashion drawings (to keep
the originals intact) that my mom
did in high school.  I cut them out and put
them in my journal. Lots of hats and gloves,
and tiny waists!

Still recording weather, drawing my coffee cups,
and noting the activities of each day, whether
momentous or mundane.

I hope you are keeping well, getting
back to 'normal' (whatever that may be)
and getting time to be creative.

You can see more of my journals on Instagram

A Few Flags

Happy Flag Day to all
in the United States! My friend
Elizabeth has an interesting post over
on her blog Altered Book Lover about
Flag Day, June 14th.

A flag-inspired quilt...with a wreath of flowers
instead of stars...

A little red, white and blue for remembrance
of patriotic holidays. July 4th will be here
before we know it. In the season of
picnics and fireworks, let's remember
the sacrifices of our veterans, and the
high price that has been paid for our freedom.
I am grateful for the symbolism of the flag
and all that it represents.

Red, White and Blue

Happy Independence Day to the
United States of America!

A patriotic pin keep that I created by
combining motifs from at least four sources.
Counted cross-stitch on linen...
I like how it turned out.

I wish I had dated this quilted flag wall-hanging
on the back. I think it's at least 20 years old.
I like the flower applique instead of stars...

I stitched the red, white and blue felt star
with beads and buttons this June, when
I got an itch to stitch!

Everyone uses an old pop crate to
decorate with, right?  It makes a fun place
to put the arrangement. I love old books,
stitching, glass and canning jars.

Many in the U.S. will be enjoying a long
weekend and celebrating with picnics,
barbecues, and fireworks.  May we remember
the holiday with thankfulness for our
freedom, and appreciation to our
veterans who have given so much.

Cross Stitch Halloween

Halloween cross-stitch designs from
The Prairie Schooler, Book No. 181.
I painted the grapevine wreath
black and dusted it with black glitter.
I may never get all of the black glitter
swept up in the spare bedroom...
I swept, I used masking tape to collect
the bits that wouldn't sweep up. Now I
remember why I don't usually use glitter.
The kids will probably wonder if
there are bed bugs next time they visit!
How's that for scary?!!
I did use paper underneath when I
sprinkled the glitter, honest. It still
went everywhere...

I heard that Prairie Schooler designs is
closing up shop, and so I ordered
several of their patterns. They are easy
because they don't have half-stitches,
and are often in a square format.  I think
the 'angel-skull headstone' is my
favorite on this wreath.

"Of course I can drive a (broom) stick"
was finished into a pincushion. Pretty
happy with the results...

The 'ghosty' version of
Pumpkin Jack is hangin' around nearby.

I stitched the wreath designs on 11 count cream
Aida fabric, so they were easy to see to stitch.
They are mounted on cardboard, with some
frayed black fabric as backing. The pattern
called for black felt for backing, but I used
what I had on hand.

Linking up with
Bleubeard and Elizabeth's
T Tuesday party,
where you never know what
we will chat about...but there
is always a beverage involved.
Mine is mocha, because
chocolate for breakfast is
cool.  Right?!

Tree Trimmings

Sharing some stitched ornaments on our
Christmas tree...

I love making little ornaments, usually
at least one each year.  The
tree is getting pretty full, and that's
the way I think it should be!

Several years ago I started making
ornaments in primarily red and white.

We have an eclectic assortment of
glass balls, country style, cross-stitched,
crocheted, and hand-made ornaments
from artistic friends.  And of course the
traditional homemade ornaments that
my children's kindergarten teacher made
with their photos on them. Where, oh where
did those little children go?!
All grown up...

Well yes, I do like some pink with
my red and white...

A lot of Santas make an appearance
every year.

Linking up with the T Tuesday party
over at Elizabeth's.  Here is my
Santa mug and its contents:
green tea with lemon and ginseng.

Ho! Ho! Ho!
It's almost Christmas!
