Hobonichi Journal Pages

It appears that we've had a
short Spring and moved directly
into Summer! Almost 80 degrees
Fahrenheit predicted for today
in Ohio!

A quick sketch of some of the
violets in our yard, before
mowing must commence.

My Hobonichi is my day planner,
documenting the small moments,
appointments, thoughts, and
life in general.

We were sick for most of the
month of April, and into May.

Lots of journal pages document
how miserable I felt.
We are slowly on the mend,

but I broke down and went to the
doctor.  My allergies just would
not let me kick the cough, so had
to get a prescription. I think it's
helping.

I am still being faithful to journal
in my little Hobonichi A6 (about 4" x 6")
Some days have quite a bit of writing,
and some days it is mostly doodling.

Post Proof that I am alive and well,
even though I have neglected this
blog shamefully.  If you are on
Instagram, you can find me there:

T is for Tiger and Toucan

For the month of August I'm doing the
Hobonichi Challenge art prompts:
"It's a Zoo Out There!"
What fun to draw animals, some that
I have never seen. Thank you Internet
for reference photos for art!

I think I may have used this same photo
before to draw a sea otter.  I think he's so
adorable floating on his back, looking so
relaxed!

Sun Bear and Red Panda. Cute little
face on the red panda...

Yes, I work in more than one planner...
and multiple sketchbooks too. After all,
it's not hoarding if it's sketchbooks! ha ha
The top planner (red) is the Hobonichi A6,
in which these little watercolors are
created.

Had to add a fun photo of one of my daughter's
flower beds.  It's beside their basement steps,
hence the reason for the fence. I said her flowers
looked so much better than mine! She admitted
she's been putting on fertilizer every week.
Maybe I need to take a page from her book!

The summer has flown by so quickly! Just
thought I should add some pretty blooms
to the blog before they're gone.

Linking up with Bleubeard and Elizabeth
for T Tuesday. Stop by for a beverage and
a chat. Can you find the coffee cups that
I doodle on my pages nearly every day?
Gotta have coffee before I do all the things.

Summer Groovin'

Hi there...
been gone awhile. Enjoying the
summer that has finally arrived.
Above, is a photo of the bumper crop of
milkweed that my In-laws have saved
for the Monarchs. Can you spot the butterfly?

Yes, I'm still journaling in my Hobonichi.
I confess, I've been wooed away from
my blog by Instagram.
It is super easy to post there.

I had to break down and buy a new
printer/scanner, and I don't have a clue
how to edit my scans with the new
device. *sigh*
I will have to call in reinforcements. Hopefully,
my daughter can figure it out and show me!

Fortunately I managed a work-around with
phone photos that I emailed to myself,
saved to my computer, and then
posted!

I've discovered some fun drawing
challenges on Instagram, and for the month
of July I'm celebrating hippie doodles with
#ohsocutedoodles ,
and the 50th anniversary of Woodstock.
At 15 years old in rural Ohio, I was completely clueless
about free rock concerts in upstate New York.
But I remember the great art, design,
music and advertising of the late 60's
and early 70's.  Groovy man!

Planner Mash Up

It's a bit of a 'mash-up' today, of Planner
Pages that I've been decorating.  Above, is
the evidence of a more traditional style
planner that is dedicated to Harry Potter
style decorations.  I know, I know. You'd be
surprised how many adults out there are
obsessed. Anyway, I've had the bright
idea to have a 'Harry Potter feast' for our
grandkids this year, and fear I've bitten off
more than I can chew, as the saying goes!

A 'Hufflepuff' themed spread for the week of
Dec. 3-9. Hufflepuff is one of the Wizarding
Houses in the Harry Potter series of books.
Students in the imaginary wizarding school are
divided into Houses for living and educational
purposes. (There are some similarities to
college fraternities or sororities, but the Houses
are co-ed with separate sleeping quarters.)

Sharing a few highlights today, since I've
been so remiss in posting.

A few of the October drawings are
some of my favorites...

As we near the end of the year, it gets
more difficult to write in my Hobonichi, as
it has gotten quite chunky, and more difficult
to scan or photograph!  It's grown to
about 2 1/4 inches in thickness.  Maybe
a few too many added layers of
collage?!

The December monthly pages in this mini
Happy Planner depict the impending Christmas
feast.  I even bought Christmas crackers this
year, which is a first.  Hope they have a nice
pop!  Click on the image, to see details of
the gold gnome in a tutu!

I don't make Christmas Cake myself, but my
son makes fruitcake, so we will have that for
Christmas Eve dinner. I also wanted to make
Treacle Tart, but the granddaughter wants
pecan pie, so we will see if it all gets done.
I made a treacle tart at Thanksgiving, (I just
used Karo syrup and the suggested lemon
juice) as a kind of practice run, and
 thought that the cookie-like crust
was a bit tough. Did I knead it too much?
Add too much flour?  Leave me your advise
please!

Linking up for T Tuesday over at
Altered Book Lover's blog, where we share
our beverage-related posts on Tuesdays.
Stop by to join in, or just visit!  My
beverage drawings are hidden on some
of these pages. I think I counted six coffee
cups...did I miss any?

Thanks for stopping by...leave me a
comment and give me your advice on
making a more tender tart crust!

Tales of Camping

Just returned from a short
camping trip to visit
Son and Family...
(click on any image to enlarge)

we are getting to be physically
challenged by sleeping on
air mattresses in a tent!

A peaceful campsite by a river
makes all the effort worth it. Plus
good times with family!

I've been enjoying making Fall
doodles in my Hobonichi...
My daily pages do 'double duty'
as participation in iHanna's
"365 somethings 2018"
daily art project.

Linking up with the T party

P.S.  It ended up that our tent was relatively
dry when we packed up. There's usually
a bit of dampness from the dew, which is
fine. Sopping wet, not so good. This
time we didn't have to set the
tent back up to dry when
we got home!

Hobonichi Techo Collage

Click on any image to enlarge

Hobonichi:  A Japanese company specializing in
planners and accessories, which encourages their
customers to "Make it your Life Book."
Techo:  Japanese for 'planner'.
Collage: A composition or design made by arranging
and gluing materials to a background surface.

My Techo is the A6 size English planner, so it's
roughly 4 inches by 6 inches, and the quotes on
each two-day spread are translated into
English. They are not necessarily 'motivational
quotes' but rather quotations from books, and
are often quirky or amusing.

I challenged myself for the month of August
to create a collage each day.

Scrapbook paper, envelope liners, doodles,
painted papers, scraps sent from blogging
buddies...they're all resources!

Our daughter asked us to volunteer at a Nascar
event, to benefit the Music Boosters at her school.
Hubby thought it sounded fun. Above, my pass for
the day. Our job was to help attendees on and off
of the Trams that went from the camping area to
the racetrack. We met lots of happy people from
many different places, including Canada, England,
Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio.

Since I dressed for sun protection and comfort,
my appearance that day was very odd, especially
with the addition of the red vest we were required
to wear!  (as my 'selfie' cartoon clearly shows)
The open-air Trams had chains or ropes
as 'guardrails' at the end of each row of seats,
fastened with caribiners.  I found that when you are
trying to be efficient and quick, that is when you
become the most clumsy at unfastening a
caribiner! (I don't think I will ever be a rock climber)
I had taken a backpack with drawing supplies,
but we were kept busy all day, so no chance
to sketch!

When someone comes up and stands beside you and blocks
your view, you might end up with 'half' a person. Can you
spot her?

Always interesting times when we visit the daughter
and son-in-law.  Daughter plays in a praise band
at her church, and they also are 4-H advisers.
So we went to a small-town parade and a barbecue
fund-raiser on Saturday, and got details about
the planning for the 4-H booth at the Fulton
county fair.  I expect we will go to the tractor pull,
and I will try to do some sketching of the
animals again. Stay tuned...

I recently exchanged some Happy Mail with someone
in Washington state, and received a lovely package
stuffed with vintage ephemera from
#forgottengems (on Instagram) The above collage
includes some of the goodies she sent.

Linking up for T Tuesday, where we share a
beverage related post with our hosts
Bleubeard and Elizabeth.  Last week there
were 10 coffee cups in my post (if you count the
one that was repeated a second time) but you
could actually have counted the magic potion
as a beverage too, making 11!

How many cups do you see this week?
