The Story of My Life

A revisit of the journal page style that
I've used quite a lot over the years:
watercolor background, acrylic paints, collage
and mark-making on the borders. I
like to juxtapose colors and texture.
Then combine with a quote that I like.

Hobonichi pages, not in order, of our
daily happenings.  Sometimes the colorful
painted papers cover personal things
that I don't want to share. Other times they
are just there as a border or for color.

Yes, I even talk to myself and remind
myself in these pages what I need to do
to have a better health check-up next time.
I've gained weight over the Pandemic.
Anyone else?

I tend to draw a coffee cup on most
every page...

and lots of doodles.

Mostly daily uninteresting stuff...

but also enjoying the ability to get out
and do some things that we've missed
over the last few months.

Hope you've had the opportunity to
spend time with people you love,
and maybe even enjoy an
ice-cream cone!
Thanks for stopping by!

Art Journal Pages: Drawing my Food

Everyone draws their food when they go
to a restaurant, don't they?!  One of the
waitresses came over to see what I was
working on, but I had barely started drawing
my red water glass.  I think she remembered
me from when I drew the turtle planter in
their restaurant...

The table top presented difficulties.  It was
a carved surface with glass over it.  Glass is
always a challenge, with shadows, reflections,
and whatever is sitting on it...hopefully you
get the idea.  I really could have eaten that
whole basket of chips by myself!
Drawing in Sharpie pen, with watercolor
pencil and water applied after I returned home.

More pages in the
"On Again~Off Again Journal...

I take along my art bag when we are taking
a road trip.  Hubby drives, and I happily
paste scraps of paper and doodles into
whatever journal happens to fit into the
stuffed bag.  My watercolor pencils, water brush,
and Sharpie pen are necessities,
and a few highlighter markers wouldn't
go amiss either. They can brighten up
a page considerably!

Above, the atc I sent to Elizabeth,
made from some of my doodle-painted
paper, and a little tea cup that I drew
and glued onto the background.
It felt good to make some mini~art!

You may have noticed that I added a
new page to this blog for Tutorials.
To go to the Tutorials page,
click on the tea cup at the top
of the side bar on the right.
There are only a few tutorials so far, but I
hope to add more. Stay tuned!

Linking up for the T Tuesday
blog hop over at
Bleubeard and Elizabeth's.
There's always time for tea!

Pink Journal Completed

The little pink journal that had
just 24 pages, is complete...
here are some pages that have
been posted on the blog in the past.

The "barracuda" page is my favorite...

I have left these drawings (above) without color,
but am not sure I will be able to resist adding it.
The detail of a statue (right) is drawn from an art history
textbook...such a serene expression on this queen.
She looks very Buddha-like...

Slay your dragon, whatever it may be...
jump in and make art!

Art Journal Faces and Folk Art

Art journal pages created with
scraps of lined paper and maps
as the background for drawings and
an Artchix paper doll.

Collage made from
more scraps and the paper doll,
with magazine text and a
vintage advertising image.

Art journal page:
Scraps of one of my ink drawings that
was photocopied and cut up. The
image of the girl may be from
Artchix, but I am not sure...

You can use almost anything in
your art journal pages...
Magazine images and paper scraps
with my drawing/watercolor.
Subdued shades of watercolor
inspired by  a vintage photo.

Collage using
more scraps of drawings and watercolors,
this time brightly colored doodles...

A sketch:
I've told myself that I need to do
more sketching this year. Toddlers are
a challenging subject as they don't
stand still much! Caught this pose
while she was watching tv.

When I want to do a quick
journal page, a folk art flower
and a quick quote or thought
make a satisfying exercise...

Many of Emily Dickinson's poems
are quite sad, but this excerpt
speaks to me of brighter moments.

Listen for the song of hope
in your heart, and in your art!

Collage Fodder

Painted cardstock to be used as collage fodder-
watercolor and gel pen.
These will probably be torn or cut
and applied to collages...
maybe art journal pages, atc's, moo cards,
or in whatever project they can add
some color and texture.
