Black and White Style: Index Card-a-Day Wrap-Up

For the last few days of the
Index-Card-a-Day challenge I decided
to create black and white pieces.
July 27 and 28 are zentangles.

A relaxing, meditative doodle that I can
do while I'm watching television...

I've made a total of 61 pieces of
art on index cards
during the 2013 icad challenge!  It's been
a lot of fun.  The small 4"x6" space is
easy to fill with drawings, scraps or doodles.
It doesn't take long...unless you want it to!

I enjoyed exploring a theme each week, and
working in a series.
I found myself carrying index cards along
with me wherever I went! (you know, just in case
the spirit moved or there was time to fill)

It also was helpful to know what I'd be posting on
my blog each Friday.  Having a goal to work towards
helps me accomplish more.  I joined the ICAD Flickr
group, and figuring out how to post on there was a
bit of a challenge for me---but it's always good to
learn new skills! I still haven't figured out how to
"add favorites" though!

My stack of index cards is getting big, as I've been
doing this for several years now.  Last year I bought
a pretty cardboard recipe box
for a cheap price, and added a
counted cross-stitch piece to the front.

This year, I went for simple and easy.
I purchased a plastic index card box with snap closures.
It has a little pocket for a label on the front where I
noted the themes of each week of the challenge.
I am not sure if I will alter it in some way, we'll see...

2011 icads in an art journal spread

I am pretty sure some of these
index-card-a-day art pieces will end up
on art journal pages!  And I am planning
to continue to explore Series of art works.
Stay tuned...

Doodle Pages: Black and White

Pages in my
Bits and Pieces journal...
( you can see the cover here... )
currently in a state of
black and white.

I liked the change of putting
the text in the 'border' area, above.

Quotes are among my favorite
things to journal.

'Zen Doodles.'
Texture is created by
filling the space with line work.

Yes. I enjoy the kick of caffiene.
(But not the indegestion it sometimes causes.)

The Madonna and child are in my
Smash book. I had every intention of
adding watercolor to this page, but
now I'm not so sure...what do you think?

Jokers and Jesters for April Fool's Day

Drawing in my index card book.
Sharpie marker, extra fine point.

Page of an altered book spread in
a book of seasons and holidays.
Gesso over scrapbook paper, Sharpie
marker drawing, and some
clippings of architecture from an
art history book.  The jester is
a photocopy of a drawing that I did,
and the arch is actually raised from
the background with pieces of
adhesive foam.

Opposite page of spread, featuring
drawings of medieval style
decoration.

The original drawing in pencil.
I photocopied, darkened with pen,
and reduced it in size for the
altered book spread.

A sketch in one of my journals
of an idea for an art doll...
haven't attempted this one yet.

May all your jokes today
be fun and funny!

Black and White

Black and white spread in the little watercolor paper art journal.
Right-hand page shown above, which includes an additional 'flap'
on the right-hand side

Left-hand side of spread shown above. All images and writing sketched in pencil, then inked with Sharpie or other marker...a limited attempt to explore the 'idea of beauty' in different cultures. I am sure whole books have been written about the subject! I want to believe that our 'inner beauty' is more important, but ... it sure seems as though the world worships at the altar of youth and physical attractiveness...

Black and White Art

Collage created from magazine and clip-art images, a scrap of the inside of a security envelope, and fabric.

White gel pen and Pigma Micron pen.

Surrounding doodles inspired by Dover clip-art, and handwritten script is a portion of an Edgar Allen Poe poem.
